Le Meridien Piccadilly Hotel, London, UK
What’s so great about this pool?
This is a wonderfully relaxing pool in the basement of one of the fanciest hotels in London – just yards from Piccadilly Circus. It is one of the largest hotel pools in London and beautifully designed, like something out a Venetian mansion. And – in an area which is all hustle and bustle – it’s a great place to get a moment of serenity.
- It’s a superb size – 15 metres in length and 11 metres in width
- It’s kept at 27 degrees Centigrade which makes it ideal for brisk exercise
- There are poolside recliners, which makes it a great place to chill out
- Opening hours are long – 6.30am to 10.00pm on Monday to Friday and 8.00am to 8.00pm on Saturday and Sunday. So you can have a swim to sharpen you up before breakfast or one in the evening to help you sleep, or one at midday – just because you fancy it.

So the pool’s fab – what about the hotel?
Le Meridien Hotel Piccadilly is a large Regency-style building on nine floors with 280 bedrooms and suites. Most of the rooms have superb views over London. The Terrace Bar and Grill on the second floor is ideal for brasserie type meals and drinks. And there is a basement bar which is a superb place for a business meeting or a romantic drink. And there is a superbly equipped gym in the lower ground floor – next to the swimming pool.
What else is there to do around there?
The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant for fine dining, but perhaps that’s because most of London’s famous restaurants are just a short walk away. The hotel is on Piccadilly – which is probably the most famous street in Britain. It’s just a short walk to Buckingham Palace and famous Royal parks of London – Hyde Park, Green Park and St James’ Park.
It’s close to the major galleries, including the National Gallery, the Royal Academy and Institute of Contemporary Arts. Some of the finest shops in the world are within five minute’s walk – Bond Street, Regent Street, Savile Row are internationally famous for clothing. And all the high class private art galleries and antiquarian bookshops are in adjacent streets. And Le Meridien Hotel Piccadilly is around the corner to Buckingham Palace, St James’ palace and the wonderfully old fashioned gentlemen’s clubs of St James’.
And then there are theatres – just metres away. And it’s just ten minutes’ walk to the river, where you can cross the bridges to the theatres and galleries on the South Bank. The Meridien Hotel really is in the very heart of London.
