So the pool’s fab – what about the hotel?
The Cafe Royal Hotel is one of the most famous places of entertainment in London. Built in 1865, it was famous for its bars, restaurants and was where the rich and cultured hung out. Among its regular guests were Oscar Wilde, Arthur Conan-Doyle (who wrote the Sherlock Holmes books), Winston Churchill and Edward Vlll.
The dining and drinks areas are stunningly beautiful. The Oscar Wilde Room still has the original art nouveau mirrors, which were so admired by rich Edwardians. An all-day dining room and two bars are great places to meet friends or just relax.
There are 159 rooms. Most of these are simple but luxurious. But some are huge suites with multiple bathrooms, dining areas and bedrooms. If you have a big enough entourage you can have suites opened up together and turned into a sort of gigantic apartment.
What else is there to do round here?
You are just next to Piccadilly Circus, which means you are yards away from the finest shops in London. You also have the best restaurants, the most amazing nightclubs and the liveliest music venues. You are a short walk from the National Gallery, and a slightly longer walk to Buckingham Palace. Some of the finest parks in London – St James’ Park, Green Park and Hyde Park – are just yards away.
